IIM, Calcutta Conducts Its Annual Biathlon "Tour-De-Joka"

Students at IIM Calcutta put aside their books and laptops for an afternoon and decided to showcase their physical powers instead. Armageddon, the Adventure Club of IIM Calcutta conducted its annual biathlon named “Tour de Joka”.

Named after the famous Tour de France, the event required participants to complete 2 laps on foot and 6 laps by cycle. Given that a lap measured close to 1.7 kms, the race was definitely tailored to push participants to their physical limits.

The event saw eager participants in teams of 1 to 3 fight it out to emerge as the champion athletes of Joka. Last year, Mr. Mohit Bharati had single-handedly won the event; that’s right, a total of 8 laps on his own! With such pedigree to live up to, the current batch of students was also expected to participate in full force. As Mr. Vikram Murthy, one of the coordinators of the event said, “We are looking forward to a more enthusiastic participation this time around, given the large size of the first year batch”.

The students certainly lived up to that, with enthusiastic participation and plenty of stirring performances on display. The participants battled fatigue and dehydration but stuck to the club’s adage of “Never give in, Never give up”. However, win or lose, the participants thoroughly enjoyed the thrill of challenging their limits and the welcome break from their academic pursuits. Truly a testament to the “Never say die” spirit of tomorrow’s budding managers!

Armageddon is the Adventure club of IIM Calcutta founded by the famed Malli Mastan Babu, who has now conquered the tallest summit in every continent in record time. Armageddon is also one of the most exclusive clubs on campus, with members having to go through a grinding selection process that includes marathons and multiple interviews. The club, apart from organizing various events like Tour de Joka, also conducts treks and trips to exotic locations for the students of the Institute.

Concluded.
