IIM Lucknow entrepreneurship cell launches "samRiddhi" Centre for Social Entrepreneurship under the aegis of National Centre for Social entrepreneurship

samRiddhi, a social entrepreneur initiative was launched on 22nd in the institute. The event witnessed the presence of prominent personalities from the field of journalism, social entrepreneurship and the corporate sector. samRiddhi is an initiative of Abhiyan, the e-cell of IIM Lucknow in association with National Social Entrepreneurship Forum, a trust which a vision to be provider of resources and knowledge to the field of social entrepreneurship in the country.

samRiddhi has a clear set of objectives like increasing awareness of social entrepreneurship in the student community, especially the IITs and IIMs, initiate industry interaction in the social entrepreneurial space so that students can get encouraged to take up internship and prospective employment in various ventures. To the community at large the initiative wants to attract investors to the field and act as a facilitator for a budding social entrepreneur who seeks resources.

The event was the launch of this student initiative in the institute aiming to provide three different perspectives to the students. One perspective is that of a social observer describing the trends that the country has seen in social entrepreneurship, second that of a social entrepreneur and finally the perspective of a facilitator in trying to encourage and support the social entrepreneurial space.

The key note speakers on the event were Madam Prema Gopalan , MD - Swayam Sikshak Prayog, Mr Upmanyu Patil, MD - Sakhi Retail Pvt Ltd, Mr Dilip D'Souza, prominent journalist and social activist and Mr Sudip Datta, alumnus of BITS Pilani and INSEAD, founding member of NSEF.

Madam Prema Gopalan gave students insights into the genesis of Swayam Sikshak Prayog, a very prominent organization developing the model of business through self help groups in Maharastra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu. During her speech she highlighted how women in these regions have become innovators and brought collective prosperity to the village and society at large.

samRiddhi in association with NSEF will conduct other events this year in a attempt to network with associations like Ashoka and Khmeka Foundation so that a platform can be formed which is capable of being a provider of resources to students who have innovative business ideas in the field of social entrepreneurship. The initiative would also work towards having such cells in other premier institutes of the country so that best of the talent from the IITs and IIMs work together on innovations that have greater social impact.
