Carpe Diem, the Largest Cultural Festivals of Eastern India Kicks off at IIM, Calcutta

Carpe Diem, presented by Axe, one of the largest cultural festivals of eastern India, kicks off in the IIM Calcutta campus. The event starts off with Opposite of Truth, a fast paced thriller by the in-house dramatics cell offering a philosophical perspective on daily life.

It is followed by a performance by the well-known Kolkata band “Jack Rabbit”. The evening comes to a colourful end with teams from various colleges presenting their take on current fashion as a part of Razzmatazz, the fashion show.

Over the course of the next two days Carpe Diem will feature literary events, quizzes, designing and painting competitions, Treasure hunt etc apart from workshops on Salsa, Bartending and Photography. For the artistically inclined there are dance events like Two to Tango and Trip the toe, dramatics events like Stagecraft, Nukkad Natak and Scenes from a Hat. For the adventurous kind, there’s even a Wall Rappelling competition which is sure to set the adrenaline racing.

In order to enthral the participants after long, gruelling days of competitions and events, Carpe features Armageddon and Symphony. Armageddon or the rock-show, scheduled on Feb 6th, is an event where semi-pro bands from across the country fight it out to secure a recording contract with Sa Re GA Ma Pa. Adding to the attraction is a chance to witness one of India’s biggest acts, The Supersonics, live in action.

For the concluding event- Sympony, Team Carpe Diem manages to bring together Mrigya and Faridkot to perform live on the greens of Joka. Mrigya is one of the pioneers of Fusion music in India and the line-up comprises of talents as diverse as rock and qawwali. Faridkot's claim to fame has been Channel [V] Launchpad.

Amidst all the fun and frolic, a musical in association with Community Human Welfare Organisation an NGO, will take placre where JBS BaroC, IIM C's in-house band will perform with those from other participating colleges with the proceeds set to serve 300 orphans.

Concluded.
