Post-event Press-release

Previous

When asked about the latest mantra in marketing, Dr. Kotler stated, "It is more important to concentrate on the customer and to understand his pulse, sales will follow suit."

He emphasised on marketing techniques such as Guerilla Marketing - hitting the street literally and capturing the attention of end users; Product Placement and Festival Marketing; Traditional Techniques - PR, Advertising, Telemarketing, etc.

Dr. Philip Kotler is one of the world's foremost experts on the strategic practice of marketing, voted as 'The First Leader in Marketing Thought' by the American Marketing Association. He has written over 56 books, including 'Marketing Management', 'The Marketing of Nations' and 'Principles of Marketing', and numerous articles in leading journals, including the Harvard Business Review. Dr. Kotler has been a consultant for different companies such as IBM, General Electric and Motorola in the areas of marketing strategy and planning, marketing organization and international marketing.

Kotler's association with India goes back to the 1960s, when as a young agricultural economist; he came to India for a research assignment. Staying here for close to three months, Kotler fell in love with the country and its people. Over the years, he has recognised the talent of this country and has directly or indirectly helped a plethora of graduates of Indian origin in their doctoral work.

During the seminars in Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai, Dr. Kotler addressed the gathering on: skill requirements for successful marketing managers, how the marketing departments of organizations would look in the future, and developing new marketing skills in the era of globalization and technology advancements; and his thoughts on Sales & Marketing, as outlined in the latest issue on Harward Business Review, 'Ending the War between Sales & Marketing'.

The seminars were attended by marketing enthusiasts and head honchos of the corporate world of Mumbai, Chennai, and Bangalore. During the visit, Dr. Kotler met prominent corporate and renowned corporate leaders.

Concluded.
