Gala Alumni Reunion, 'Reminiscence 2008', Held at IIM Calcutta

IIM Calcutta once again welcomed back its silver jubilee alumni with open arms as it celebrated Reminiscence 2008, being held on the 28th and 29th of December on the sprawling lawns of the Joka campus. The two-day celebrations witnessed a mix of plays, performances,

student-faculty-alumni interactions, parties, topped off with a healthy dose of nostalgia for the batch of 1983 - the 18th batch of IIM Calcutta, the guests of the campus this year. 48 students from the batch of 83 with their families and around 70 from other batches attended the two-day long festivities at IIM Calcutta. On being asked how it feels to be back to IIM Calcutta after 25 years, Shantanu Khosla, an alumni of the batch of 83, smiled warmly and said, "It feels great to be back on campus!"

The best measure of the success of an educational institution is undoubtedly the success of its alumni. One of the major reasons of the record-breaking numbers and salaries during placement from IIM-C is the presence of a strong alumni network in the industry. It was a pleasure to have them back to the institute, 25 years after they passed out, in 1983, and recount their days at IIM-C, and to learn about their experiences about life. Extremely positive interactions with the alumni found the Alumni recounting their student lives and sharing their experiences in life, as students indulged them with questions on corporate life and teaching as a career. Students took a keen interest in learning of the spirit and rigors of entrepreneurship which was best embodied by the veterans from IIM Calcutta such as Ajay Jain (TechPro Infrastructures Pvt. Ltd.), Jayaram Marthy (VitalTech), Sukanya Kripalu (Sukanya Consulting). The alumni also had a word of advice and encouragement to offer with regards to the current market scenario.

Shantanu Khosla (MD, P & G India), Anand Kripalu (President Asia, Cadbury), N. Thiruambalam (Chairman & MD, Heinz India), Sanjay Kao (Head of Consumer Finance Asia, RBS), Subrata Biswas (CEO, Damodar Valley Corporation), Vinay Chhabra (Director, Standard Chartered Bank), Rajeev Katyal (Director - Education, Microsoft Corporation Pvt. Ltd.), Aswini Jain (Vice President, Citibank), Sanjay Nayak (President, McCann WorldGroup), among other notable alumni relived their student days at IIM Calcutta as they attended the two-day festival and interacted with the students that form the present batch.
