Top Financial Firms line up as IIM Ahmedabad Placements Begin

The new cohort based placement process for the second year PGP students kicked off at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, on Saturday. In the new process companies that offer similar roles, profiles, salaries, locations etc. are grouped into individual cohorts.

Several cohorts comprise a Cluster. The first Cluster had companies across four cohorts – international investment banks, global strategy consulting, global niche consulting and private equity/ venture capital. The new process allowed recruiters to interact with the students for a longer duration. Institute received positive feedback from the recruiters about the new process. Institute is continuously evaluating the new process for fine tuning the process for subsequent clusters based on the feedback of the recruiters.

Boston Consulting Group which gave out 8 offers, including pre-placement offers, said, “We were very happy with the new process. We were able to select excellent candidates.” Another regular recruiter McKinsey & Co. also made 8 offers, including pre-placement offers.

The students also found the new process more relaxed and were able to make better choices. According to Prof. Saral Mukherjee, “Today being the first time the cohort based system was being implemented, we were a trifle apprehensive. However, as the day progressed, the relaxed atmosphere in and around the interview rooms were a pointer that we have moved in the right direction. The recruiters have expressed satisfaction with the new process and students too have interviewed with the firms of their choice.”

This year several investment banks like Bank of America-Merrill Lynch came back on campus for recruitment after skipping the process last year.

At the time of this press release Cluster One interviews were still in progress.

Concluded.
