IIM Calcutta Organizes a Special MDP on Management of Creativity and Innovation

After liberalization, with an economy where companies have to become more competitive to survive and grow, creativity and innovation have acquired centre stage in well-functioning organizations.

Management of Creativity and Innovation is a special five-day management development programme at IIM Calcutta which is undergoing its latest edition from February 15 till 19, 2010. It is a proof of this growing importance that more than a thousand executives have attended this programme till now.

This programme has been organized more than a hundred times by Prof. Vidyanand Jha of IIM Calcutta during last 12 years for a variety of managers from corporate, government and nonprofit sectors. Some of the organizations for whom he has organized this programme in a customized mode recently include PayPal and NHPC.

The programme follows an eclectic methodology combing case discussions with lectures, personality tests and experiential exercises and games. The programme also had a screening of and discussions on the iconic American painter late Andy Warhol. Another highpoint of the programme was a Creativity carnival where the corporate executives tried to do something which they had never done before. The outcomes of this exercise were many interesting paintings, a puppet show and some songs.

Prof. Jha, who has been at IIM Calcutta since 1997, got initiated into this programme during a course on the same topic at IIM Ahmedabad which was designed by Prof. Pradip N. Khandwalla who was a pioneer in creativity research and teaching in India.

Concluded.
