VISTA 2003
Announcing the IIMB Annual Management Festival
Top B-Schools Converge at IIM Bangalore

Bangalore, September 20, 2003: Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Asia's leading business school according to the Wall Street Journal Guide to the Top Business Schools 2003, is holding its annual management festival - VISTA from October 31st to November 2nd. VISTA is a blitzkrieg of B-school events providing an opportunity for students, academics and practitioners to come together in a series of symposia, workshops, case competitions and other related events, enabling the exchange of ideas between the current and future leaders of corporate India. In a bold effort to bridge the gap between theory and practice, the theme of this year's VISTA 2003 is

"Beyond Vision Statements… Mission Execution"

- the focus being on the practical issues faced by the companies in translating their vision into reality. Activities ranging from presentations by academic experts and senior managers in the panel discussion being conducted by CNBC, to the business quiz being hosted by Siddhartha Basu, VISTA promises to give participants an opportunity to actively discuss their experiences, contribute insights on the issues faced by corporate India and challenge their intellect in stimulating informal sessions.

Dr. Prakash G. Apte, the Director IIMB said "VISTA is a student initiative which IIMB encourages and supports because it helps learning by doing thus bridging the gap between planning and implementation to facilitate an all-round development of students as future managers". Sameer Mahandru, President of the IIMB Student Council, echoes the student sentiment towards the event - "VISTA gives us the chance to interact with management students from all over the country and an opportunity to match our talent against theirs in a very effective and competitive manner".

The array of events lined up for VISTA 2003 include workshops conducted by managers from a variety of industries on current issues, case competitions to highlight the nature of challenges in a managerial role and of course, India's largest and arguably Asia's biggest management paper writing competition, Manifestations. In addition, Workshops present a chiaroscuro of all management disciplines. Each workshop is designed and conducted by heavyweights in the relevant fields of industry and the participants stand to gain practical insights into the burning issues.

The business quiz, Bizarre, conducted by none other than India's mastermind, Siddhartha Basu, promises to be a virtual battle of wits, with some of the sharpest brains across India and the rest of the world participating. The panel discussion, Synthesis, being conducted by CNBC, will offer a heady brew by bringing together top management visionaries and students to discuss and evolve a shared understanding of an issue of high relevance in contemporary business environment. A new addition to VISTA in 2003 is On-Air, a videoconference with an internationally acclaimed business personality, to make geography history and expand the horizons of global thinking in business.

VISTA 2003 will also present a host of competitions to tickle almost anyone's intellect - be it the prolific strategists to whom reasoning is second nature (Arthashastra), ad-gurus personifying creativity (Best-Sellers), fin-whizzes whose middle name is currency (Chakravyuh) and the geeks about to inherit the earth (Ctrl-Alt-Del). For the well-rounded general manager, there's a chance to cut across disciplines and try out a battery of skills over several rounds, each challenging a specific area of managerial proficiency, in Tycoon the best manager contest. For both the overtly and covertly inquisitive, none else than El Dorado is there to elude and perk up their ability to decipher cryptic clues.

Corporate Partnerships

VISTA has enduring alliances with corporate India and the leading companies who have confirmed their patronage to VISTA 2003 include Tata Sons, ITC, Tata Motors, Sify and Hutch.
