Communication Skills for Effective Management

Objectives: Communication is the lifeline of any organization and managers who are entrusted with the responsibility of piloting their organizations in the right direction are required to use communication skills to motivate their staff in aligning their personal career ambitions and accomplishments with the vision and mission of the organization.

According to the recent surveys conducted, it has been found that managers spend as much as 85% of their work time communicating with their subordinates, peers and superiors. As case studies of several managerial debacles when dissected turn out to be communication catastrophe, training in communication has emerged as one of the focus areas of most of the executive education programmes. This programme is designed keeping in view this need of the modern organizational setups. Even training modules pertaining to corporate leadership have communication as one of the salient training modules because without communication manning manpower becomes a formidable task. Hence this programme has been modeled on the communication matrix that operates in today’s modern organizations. The programme takes up all the forms of communication that make corporate structures run on a smooth track.

For: Middle-level managers from corporate/public sectors with job portfolios requiring excellent communication skills.

Contents: The programme has been divided into ten sessions, each session dealing with a different genre of communication to deliver to the participants a complete communication kit. The training will focus on crafting diverse sorts of messages which characterize the day-to-day life of a corporate professional. In any organization, private or public, a manager finds himself keyboarding neutral, good news, bad news or persuasive messages. Hence five sessions will be devoted to the drafting skills that can make all these types of messages acceptable to the receiver by making them receiver-centric rather than stereotypically sender-centric. Intercultural communication will give insights into the staggering differences one might find acting as stumbling block in dealing with one’s business counterparts hailing from high-context and low-context cultures. The module on presentation skills will showcase how some simple techniques of making boardroom presentations can carve a powerhouse impact on the minds of the audience and can culminate into generating business for companies. Likewise, sessions dealing with listening sills and body language will further work towards honing the skills of the communicator both in the roles of the receiver as well as sender engaged in a communication act.
