Final year students of Bachelor's/Master's degree (such applicants have to complete all requirements of obtaining degree by 30th June of the year of joining). The Master degree holders should acquire at least 55% marks or its equivalent at the Postgraduate level and at least 50% aggregate marks at the Bachelor's degree level. Applicants holding Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology must secure First class/division. All applicants must ensure that they have obtained minimum of 50% aggregate marks in secondary (Std. X) and higher-secondary (Std. XII) examinations.

Admission Criteria
All applicants are required to take the Common Admission Test (CAT) of the Indian Institutes of Management. Candidates must also submit a Fellow Programme Application Form to the Fellow Programme Office of the Institute. This can be obtained on request from the Senior Administrative Officer (Academic), Fellow Programme Office, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta by a specified date announced every year.

Those who qualify on the basis of the CAT performance, and who meet the eligibility criteria stated above, are called for interview around the middle of April.

A PGDM/PGDCM holder of any of the Indian Institutes of Management who wishes to enter the Fellow Programme need not take CAT, if her/his cumulative grade point average (CGPA) is 6.00/9.00 and above or its equivalent. They can apply directly in the prescribed Fellow Programme Application form. After submission of application forms, the selection procedure regarding these candidates will be identical to that of other candidates. If her/his CGPA is less than 6.00/9.00 she/he should take CAT and go through the admission procedure like any other candidate.

Candidates who have completed their PGDBM from IIMC would be eligible for CAT waiver (but not the interviews) if they have secured a CGPA of at least 6.5. A faculty member of the Institute is encouraged to join a different institute for the purpose of doctoral degree. An internal faculty member will only be admitted into the Institute's Fellow Programme under compelling circumstances.

NRI/Foreign applicants (without an MBA) wishing to pursue the FP Programme would have to furnish GMAT scores obtained not earlier than three years from the year of application, three letters of recommendation, and a write-up on their research interest (in a suitably designed format). The applicant must indicate whether he/she would be available for interview. The FRP Committee will review on a case by case basis whether to short-list the candidate or not. In the event of the candidate not being available for interview, the selection/rejection will be on the basis of the Committee and the concerned Groups decisions. The candidate need not take CAT, but will have to prove that he/she is residing/resided abroad.
