On December 15-17, 2006

The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, is a premier institute in the field of social work and social development. It pioneered social work education in India since its inception in 1936, and is today a deemed university with a five-star rating from the National Accreditation and Assessment Committee (NAAC).
The institute has a tradition of an active student community involved in various initiatives.

The Social Work Students Forum (SWSF) is a student body on campus that strives to provide an enhanced learning experience to all by transcending academic knowledge into field realities.

The vast array of activities undertaken by the SWSF include: -

  • Mohalla Bolta Hai (MBH): An open space for individuals to voice their opinions and raise issues of their concerns.

  • Sameeksha: The Annual Academic Fest of SWSF to explore contemporary social issues and field realities.

  • Common Interest Groups (CIGs): A Platform for students who feel strongly about an issue to come together and work on that issue.

  • Networking Activities: An effort to provide an interface between activists, professionals, different schools of social work and other voluntary organizations to harness their collective strengths.

    Sameeksha 2006-07

Sameeksha is the annual academic fest of the SWSF. Sameeksha is a platform for field realities, contemporary issues and emerging social paradigms. It is a unique event that unfolds the opportunities of facilitating exchange of expressions, views, thoughts and ideas, in all their specificity and abstraction.

At Sameeksha, students, field practitioners, academicians and other like-minded people come together to explore various themes. In the past, Sameeksha has dealt with themes like the Green v/s Brown agenda, Polemics of Funding, Dynamics of Social Movements, Margins, Voices and Silences, etc. The theme for this year's Sameeksha is 'Existence & Resistance: Exploring Alternatives'.
