Mind-boggling Number of Slot 0 Offers Marks IIM-A Summer Placements 2008

One prominent reason that the students have been successful in obtaining such multifarious work-profiles is the diverse background of the students themselves. Close to 35% of the batch has prior work-experience in non-IT areas: engineering, finance, manufacturing, operations, and marketing, among others

- and, hence, there is a perfect matching between roles that firms offer and relevant work experience of the candidate.

Host of New Sectors / Firms / Roles

With the global private equity firms extremely gung-ho about India, it came as no surprise that the number of PE firms visiting campus for placements grew five-fold. Many of the big players world-wide - Blackstone PE, General Atlantic, Audax, Greater Pacific Capital, visited campus for the first time and were delighted by the quality of students.

Other new firms on campus included investment banks and financial service majors like Macquaire, Rothschild, AIG and ING. Consulting majors Arthur D. Little and Value Partners recruited for summers for the first time. General Atlantic and ING recruited exclusively from IIM Ahmedabad.

Another clear trend seen was the increased willingness of firms to offer international postings to management graduates for marketing roles. Top firms traditionally hiring for their Indian offices - Hindustan Unilver Limited, Coca-Cola, Cadbury, Dabur, Aditya Birla Group - offered positions abroad to summer interns this year, in addition to Procter & Gamble (P&G), which used to be the only firm in this league till last year.

Dream Recruiters

The total number of firms participating in the Summers Placements 2008 at IIM Ahmedabad was close to 100. Continuing the roll by the top investment banks, Goldman Sachs had the highest number of acceptances (17), followed by Lehman Brothers (15) and Merrill Lynch (13). Among the consulting firms, McKinsey and Co., The Boston Consulting Group and Bain and Co. led the charge. The Private Equity sector saw a total of 15 acceptances. A total of 123 students from the 2007-2009 Batch will be interning abroad across various firms and functional roles.

Start-up Fair

The idea of building businesses from scratch and higher levels of responsibility seemed to have gained popularity amongst students of IIM-A. This year, based on student interest, a 'Start-up Fair' was organized for students on October 20th-21st, in which over 90 first-year students interacted with 9 start-ups. The firms spanned across sectors ranging from education to finance.

With another record-shattering summer placements, IIM Ahmedabad has re-affirmed its position among the world’s best management schools.
