Class of 2008 at ISB Organizes ISB Leadership Summit 2007

The ISB Leadership Summit (ILS) 2007, the flagship event organized by students of the Class of 2008 at the ISB successfully brought together some of the brightest minds in the country to debate and discuss on a theme that is so relevant to the India of today - 'India - Fostering Sustainable, Inclusive Growth'.

Welcoming the gathering, Savita Mahajan, Associate Dean, ISB, said, "The ILS fits well in the greater canvas of the ISB philosophy. Along with growth in the professional and personal dimension, students at the ISB, during their stay, are nurtured to develop societal awareness."

The keynote speech was delivered by Arun Maira, Chairman, Boston Consultancy Group, India. Maira commended the students of the ISB on choosing a profound and relevant theme and underscored the need to celebrate the common man. He rendered his address by putting together three insightful points that link to the summit’s theme.

The first was about taking personal responsibility for climate change. He then talked about making growth more sustainable by providing access to utilities rather than focusing on their ownership by individuals. This simple idea saves resources and is less damaging to the environment. Finally, he explained that inclusive growth is beneficial for all stakeholders involved. Inclusion of all segments in society in economic activity is necessary for expanding business and making development sustainable.

Rajendra Pawar, Chairman, NIIT, declared the awards for the NIIT Business Plan Competition, where two teams from the ISB were felicitated for their innovative B-plans. Pawar said, "An entrepreneur is not necessarily an individual. In fact a team with complementarities and diversities, has a higher risk taking capacity than an individual." He added that such conclaves, as the ILS, helps foster better interaction between the students and the industry, leading to a "discovery process which transfers value and experiences, creates opportunities, and uncovers new capabilities."

Six Panel Discussions were organized on various sectors.

Track I: Retail & Marketing - The BIG Picture

An eminent panel from the retails industry such as Kaushika Madhavan, Manager Retail Practice - AT Kearney, Sanjay Mishra, VP - RPG Retail, Sivakumar, CEO - ITC IBD, Vidhya Srinivasan, Strategy Head - Aditya Birla Retail, Suhas Tuljapurkar, CEO - Legasis, and Bijay Sahoo, Human Resources Head - Reliance Retail discussed the coming of age of the Indian retail industry at the discussion.
