TISS-Mumbai Organizes First In-House Assessment Center for its First Year Students

In yet another first in the country, TISS-Mumbai, in association with ChangeWorks, organized an In-House Assessment Center for its first year students. Following on the footsteps of Manthan 2007, which had for the first time in the history of
an Indian B-school Fest, included an Assessment Center for the corporate and B-school participants, the event was a mega success in terms of the results it produced. The objective of the Assessment Centre was to assess the students on four basic competencies, which will be critical to their success in the corporate world when they enter it in a year's time or so. These included: -

  • Business Understanding

  • Communication Skills

  • Interpersonal Skills

  • Analytical Skills

A total of 10 students participated in the event conducted by Certified Assessors, Mr. Shankar Subramanium, TISS Alumnus, and Mr. Bilol Bose, XLRI Alumnus, who now own the Leadership & Change Consulting Organization, ChangeWorks. The students had an excellent time jostling with the situations and scenarios that the assessors created to assess both the latent as well as manifest skills that the participants may have possessed. They simply sought to identify the areas of weakness and strength for each of the participants. This was achieved through three interesting activities followed by objective feedback at the end of the event.

The activities included a role play, a group task and an individual task. The assessors managed to create very life-like situations in which the participants got so engrossed that it became imperative for them to exhibit their real selves and inherent behaviours. That's when the assessors observed and interpreted the latent behavioural patterns. With loads of experience and inter-rater validation, the two assessors managed to give their integrated observations and explained how each observation had implications on not just the career front but also for the personal lives of the candidates.

Overall, the participants emerged enlightened and enthused from the event. This was just another method of student development that TISS employs. After all, while HR provides tools for learning to others in the organization, there is no excuse for it to not allow itself to be continuously re-tooled. And in the end, it was just the HR vernacular of the phrase that was proven right: "All's well that ends in a Feedback."

    Concluded.
