IIM Calcutta Conducts "Employees Developmental Programme" for its Personnel

Effective communication is a core competency for every organization. Teams, which are the basis of an institution, are formed through it. Effective communications is a 'life-skill' upon which sound relationships are established. Understanding this, the

IIM Calcutta authority has unfolded several Employees Developmental Programmes including communication and soft skill development for its personnel to upgrade them to meet ongoing needs of the institute. In fact Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, being a transnational institute, acts as India's ambassador of business education to the world, so lasting external image building is the core mantra of its administration now.

Recently, the institute has just concluded a "2-Month Certificate Course in Business Correspondence, Spoken English & Communication Skills Development" for IIM-C personnel. The programme was launched on April 11, 2008 and ended on June 11, 2008. The valedictory session was held on June 13 at the IIM-C campus in presence of IIM-C Director, Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri, Chief Administrative Officer, Sri Dinesh Varma, Professor of English, Jadavpur University, Sri Swapan Chakraborty and Co-chairman, Eastern Regional Development Council, ASSOCHAM, Sri S. N. Nandy.

The course was conducted by Enterprise Development Institute, an off-shoot of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The programme included instructive sessions on mannerism, body-language, dress-code, etiquette, etc., apart from written and spoken English skill development. The initiative was highly responded by the IIM-C personnel and the concluding session was successful too.

The Director, in his speech, emphasized that this programme is designed to develop staff's skill which is for the sake of the institute's overall image building exercise. While CAO, Sri Dinesh Varma has appealed all the participants to start implementing whatever they have learnt and also advised that all possible support would be provided to them in reaching the comprehensive objective of the institute. The valedictory session was concluded with the gave-away ceremony of certificates to all the successful participants, followed by an interactive session.
