Workshop on 'Management Consultancy in Transition for Future Unlimited' Held at IMI Delhi

Previous

He also shared his gems of knowledge in the form of his 'Dus Ka Dum' mantra for consultants encapsulating ten to-do things that are now must for budding as well as successful consultants to reach the pinnacle of excellence.

Mr. Subir Vyas then came forward to initiate a dialogue with ideas to think about the partnership between the consultants and the industry / organizations. Firstly, he asserted that consultants should tend to look at training as a journey or process, as opposed to an event. In recruitment consulting, the consultant must ask the right kind of questions about the job and the person profile, and return not more than 3-4 CVs with a stamp of confidence about the perfect candidature of at least one in the shortlist. Lastly, he noted, that a consultant should ensure a more robust and fruitful partnership by understanding the dynamics of the organization, and therefore, the impact of the solution on the middle management and the foot-soldiers, and ultimately, a mutual Return On Investment for both the partners in the association.

Dr. Mohnot then observed that in the times to come, it would be the survival of the biggest or the smallest consultancy firms; the small and medium sized companies will not really make an impact in the industry.

An interesting question and answer exchange then followed, with managing consultants sharing their ideas, problems and seeking greater insight - both from the veteran specialists in the field, as well as from the client side. While the two very different perspectives generated a fair amount of heat, and debate, Dr. C. S. Venkataratnam concluded the session with an amusingly insightful observation: Given the diversity of India, if the client is right, the consultant need not be wrong.

Concluded.
