IIM Calcutta to Host Entrepreneurship Workshop, Ascent '08

The Entrepreneurship Cell of India's premier B-school, IIM Calcutta, continues to promote the vision of spreading entrepreneurship with enthusiastic passion. The club renowned for organizing international B-school events maintains the tradition by

organizing its flagship event Ascent '08, a manifestation of the fact that Entrepreneurship as a career is generating a lot of attention in Business Schools of India.

Kick-starting this chain of activities is Ascent '08 - a whole day event on September 14, 2008. Ascent '08 would be an A-Z of Entrepreneurship Workshop covering all the nitty-gritty of Entrepreneurship. The event is being held in association with The National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) and TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs). NEN is a not-for-profit initiative of the Wadhwani Foundation, working to inspire, educate and support the next generation of high-growth entrepreneurs in India. The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE), a network of entrepreneurs & professionals dedicated to the advancement of entrepreneurship, is associated with the entrepreneurial activities in IIM Calcutta.

The workshop begins with session by Mr. Shoummo Acharya, Managing Director, Vi eTrans, and President, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Kolkata. According to him, "It takes knowledge and effort to develop an entrepreneurial mind-set and skills, and use that to create your own enterprise - Ideas, culture, team, leadership, funding, leveraging resources, creating and facilitating an innovative atmosphere and others." His session will be followed by Mr. Abhishek Rungta, Chief Executive Officer, Indus Net Technologies. He would be sharing his experiences as an entrepreneur, what it takes to start a business, and what problems start-up companies face.

And in case you thought that Entrepreneurship as a serious career option is a long shot, then you have more opportunities in afternoon session. There is a session by Mr. Arup Dasgupta, Managing Director, Metalogic Systems, on 'Importance of Intellectual Property Right' and 'How to Safeguard Your Product', followed by session on basic issues of 'Being an Entrepreneur & Dealing with Funding Issues' by Mr. Kalyan Kar, Co-founder & Managing Director, Acclaris India.

All in all, Ascent '08 promises to be a platform to learn the basics and offers ample opportunities for learning and interacting with the people who have been there and done it all in the world of entrepreneurship.
