XIM, Bhubaneswar Organizes Annual Finance Summit "Finomics '08"

On the 27th of September 2008, XIM, Bhubaneswar hosted Finomics' 08, a Finance Summit organized by XFIN - the Finance Committee of the college - which gave the students the opportunity to interact with a range of leaders from across the industry.

Mr. Kaza Sudhakar, Mr. Chandresh Shah, Mr. S. Santhanam & Dr. D. V. Ramana, Addressing XIM-B Students During the Annual Finance Summit

The students were addressed by three leaders: Mr. Kaza Sudhakar, Regional Director, The Reserve Bank of India, Mr. Chandresh Shah, Vice President - Corporate Risk, Tata Capital Ltd., Mr. S. Santhanam, DGM - Treasury & Investment Department, Canara Bank, on the topic 'Changing Investment Dynamics in Emerging Economies'.

The event started with the lighting of the lamp by the Moderator, Dr. D. V. Ramana, a faculty member at XIM-B, and the various panelists. The results of the paper presentation contest were then announced, with Hanish Yadav from IIM Kozhikode bagging the first prize, and Monica Jain and Vaibhav Kumar from XIM-B netting the second.

During the actual discussion, the panelists discussed the stand of the Reserve Bank of India on various financial policies. They also spoke of the impact of the global financial crisis on India and other developing nations. Issues like why developing countries such as India and China have such booming economies, and the future prospects for these countries were also discussed. This was followed by a highly interactive Question & Answer Session in which the students asked a wide variety of questions related to the global financial crisis, micro-finance and RBI's stand on various issues. A few of the questions were also left open by the panellists.

Finally, Dr. Ramana summed up the talk and also presented his views on the topic. The September '08 Edition of 'Finshastra', the Finance Magazine was also released by the panelists and Dr. Ramana. The vote of thanks was offered by Prof. Banikanta Mishra, a faculty member at XIM-B, who also presented mementos to the panelists and the Moderator, Dr. Ramana.

Overall, it was a very enriching experience, and at the end, the audience left the venue, finally understanding the wisdom of the panel in leaving a few questions open - questions that may, perhaps, be answered by the audience members themselves, in the future.

Concluded.
