XIM, Bhubaneswar Chapter of SPICMACAY Organises Kathakali

XIM, Bhubaneswar was honoured to play host to members from the dance troupe of KalaBharati, Natyashala and KalaNilayam, who performed KathaKali in the college auditorium. The program was organised by the XIMB chapter of SPICMACAY.
The word KathaKali is derived from the Malayalam word Katha (story) and Kali (dance), which means that a story or play is enacted in the form of a dance. The name of the play enacted at XIM-B was 'Lord Dakshayaga', and it was based on the Hindu mythological story of Lord Shiva, Devi Sati and King Daksha.

The artists kept the audience spell-bound through the entire program with their inspiring performance. The movement of hands, facial expressions, body movements and grace with which the artists performed was indeed very enthralling.

The event was concluded with Fr. Tony handing out bouquets as tokens of appreciation to all the performers. The performers were also favourably impressed with the audience and thanked them for their support. To conclude, it was indeed a very enriching experience and was thoroughly appreciated by the audience who gave a standing ovation to the performers when the event got over.

In the past, XIM-B chapter of SPICMACAY has had other star performers visiting the campus, the most recent being Salil V. Bhat, who played the Mohan Veena. The XIM-B chapter of SPICMACAY continues to conserve and promote an awareness of the rich and heterogeneous cultural tapestry amongst the budding managers through focus on the classical arts, with their attendant legends, rituals, mythology and philosophy and to facilitate an awareness of their deeper and subtler values.

Concluded.
