SPIC MACAY, XLRI Chapter, Hosts Hindustani Vocal Concert of Dr. Meeta Pandit

She came, she saw, and she verily conquered. The evening of Saturday, the 27th September, saw the SPIC MACAY, XLRI Chapter host a Hindustani Vocal Concert of Dr. Meeta Pandit, accompanied by Pt. Santosh Kumar Mishra (Sarangi) and Pt. Kishore Kumar Mishra (Tabla).

Renowned Hindustani Classical Vocalist, Dr. (Mrs.) Meeta Pandit, Performing at XLRI Jamshedpur

Dr. Meeta Pandit, acknowledged as the scion of the Gwalior musical gharana, is the grand-daughter and disciple of Padma Bhushan Pt. Krishna Rao Shankar Pandit, the doyen of northern Indian classical music in the 20th century, and the daughter and disciple of legendary Pt. L. K. Pandit. Meeta is the sixth of the unbroken Pandit line and has the unique distinction of being the first woman musician in the family. Her voice, at once melodious and robust, coupled with an intricate understanding and handling of ragas, has won her critical acclaim and a large fan following.

In her concert, she presented two pieces - a captivating vilambit khayal in Purya Dhanashri, and an uplifting Kabir Bhajan. The khayal, spread over 40 minutes, explored the various facets of the raga in depth. The bhajan, breaking the intensity of the earlier piece, wove a rich tapestry of colour and beauty, leaving listeners with a lasting impression, both of the poet's imagination and the artist's virtuosity.

A highly appreciative audience enjoyed the concert fully, with the students benefiting from the unique experience.

Concluded.
