XIMB Concludes Annual Festival, Xpressions '08, Successfully

Xpressions, the Annual Festival of the Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), is an eagerly awaited extravaganza on the B-school calendar. This year, too, the festival didn't disappoint.

This year, keeping in mind the growing preference of the B-school community for online events, Xpressions had 6 online events. Flagship events like Kurukshetra (simulated business environment to test cross-functional decision-making ability), Skill City (a test of soft skills like communication, negotiation, conflict handling and resource management), Gladiator (an evaluation of a contender's potential to be a cross-functional manager in an objective manner), Helios (the only pan-India B-school game for undergrads to test their inherent management skills), and Spardha (an opportunity to experience life in the hinterlands of Orissa) were held on campus.

However, these were just the tip of the iceberg. The night events during Xpressions did their bit to add glamour and pizzazz to the festival. On the night of the 8th of November 2008, the Celeblitz nite was opened by XIMB's inhouse band, Ushma. After getting the crowd all warmed up, they yielded to Evergreen, a band from the coconut state of Kerala. A few catchy numbers later, it was time for the attraction of the evening - Kross Windz, the band from Kolkata. Kross Windz had the audience jumping to its tunes as they gave a scintillating performance.

The next night was a special one as XIMB decided to go back to India's cultural roots and hosted a Hasya Kavi Sammelan. With the presence of stalwarts like Surender Sharma, Dr. Sunil Jogi, Dr. Suman Dubey and Surendra Dube, the show was an outright hit with the audience. The kavis took pot-shots at each and every topic in sight and spared no one; thus, ensuring that the audience was in splits throughout the performance. This was followed by a Karaoke Nite by KJ SUBZ. All the students had fun singing to the tunes of popular English and Hindi numbers.

On all days of Xpressions, as is the norm at XIMB, the night wasn't complete without a JLT - XIMB's own version of a dance party. Each night, the JLT went on into the wee hours of the morning - so much so that the DJ had to call it a 'day' at sunrise!

Thus ended 2008's Xpressions - a true pot-pourri of games, culture and pure, unadulterated fun.

Concluded.
