XIM, Bhubaneswar Organizes a CEO Talk & Naming Ceremony of its New Academic Block

Previous

He urged the MBAs getting ready to enter the job market not to panic because of the downturn but to look at the opportunities it provides. One big advantage he said the newly graduating students will have is that the situation is completely new. People with three to five years of experience would not have faced such a scenario ever.
This makes their experience come to nought. So he asked the students to accept every new challenge that comes and react accordingly. Mr. Nerurkar also asked the students to follow their heart. He gave the example of Steve Jobs who had enrolled for calligraphy courses in college and later in life this course helped him form elegant fonts for his Macintosh computers. He said to succeed in life a person should be disciplined, be ready to learn not only from one's own domain but also across domains, be creative, respect other human beings and above all be ethical.

On being asked why was India lagging behind China in Global Steel production Mr. Nerurkar was of the opinion that China realised their potential to grow much earlier than India and hence invested in basic industries. India did not believe that It could grow at such a pace. Also typically in India supply has followed demand. But for infrastructure it typically has to be the reverse. China's controlled administration makes it easier for them to implement and formulate policies. India being democratic takes a longer time. On being questioned about the rationale behind Corus acquisition Mr. Nerurkar replied that it had its own strategic objectives. It was aimed at getting a foothold in the European markets and become a global player. He however admitted that the fall of 2008 was not at all anticipated. Otherwise valuations would have been different.

Delivering the vote of thanks Prof W. S. Williams said "The message given out was clear and very apt for the current situation. Be innovative and be yourself." He hoped the students would benefit from the advice and build great future for themselves and the country.

Mr. H. M. Nerurkar, Executive Director (India and South East Asia), Tata Steel Limited During the Naming Ceremony of XIMB New Academic Block

Soon after, the new academic block was named as Tata Centenary Learning Centre in the presence of Shri H. M. Nerurkar, Executive Director (India & South East Asia), TATA STEEL. It may be noted that TATA Steel had provided financial support to the tune of Rs. 1 Crore towards the construction of the new block.

Concluded.
