6.5 EXPERIENCE LEVELS

MBA recruiters consistently show a strong bias towards candidates with 1-8 years experience but there is a trend toward recruiting younger people. Yet graduates taking an MBA with less than 1 year of experience are targeted by only 5% of employers. These inexperienced candidates typically accept lower paid graduate level positions. MBAs with 1-3 years of experience are targeted by 28% of employers. MBAs with 5-8 years of experience are targeted by 29% of employers. Those MBAs with over 8 years of experience are targeted by only 4% of employers (Figure 9). This does not imply that this experienced group is not in demand, but that they fall outside the needs of mainstream international MBA recruiters. Experienced professionals are more likely to use a search company to identify suitable opportunities.
