There is a significant differential in salaries across regions. Asian and Latin American salaries are 19% (20%) lower than those in the US. Average salaries are lower in Latin America, Asia and Eastern Europe, partly due to weak exchange rates and the low status of those regions for business development. But as these economies grow more rapidly than their Western counterparts, salaries around the world will tend to equalise. The time trend information in Figure 16 demonstrates that there is an overall long-term trend towards convergence in salaries.
