Back to the Future - Gita and Leadership

Selling the Vision

The next step is to constantly sell the vision. This takes perseverance and dedication, as nobody will immediately buy a radical vision, no matter how powerful the influencing force is.
The Transformational Leader has to grab every opportunity to persuade and drive home his point.

Krishna offers to serve Arjuna and be his charioteer in the battles of the Mahabharata war. It is uncommon for a great king like Krishna to provide such a support role in any battle. However, by becoming Arjuna's charioteer in the war, Krishna is able to actively sell his vision and convince Arjuna.

Seeking the Way Forward

In parallel with the selling activity is seeking the way forward. Some Transformational Leaders would have already chalked out the road-map and require just commitment to the plan. Others may not have a complete strategy, but will be bold enough to try out different plans of action.

The route may neither be obvious nor elaborate, but with a clear vision, the direction will always be known. Thus, finding the way forward can be an ongoing process of continuous course correction, and there will be missed turns and blind alleys along the way. As long as they feel progress is made in the right direction, the goal will always remain in sight.

Krishna addresses Arjuna's personal duty as a warrior and advises him on what he needs to do to achieve his goals. The words used are meant to remind Arjuna that his people are depending on him to protect them from harm, and if Arjuna now retreats, there will be chaos and very serious consequences.
