Placement 2003

 Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow

With a batch of 230 students to place for the first time and an economy still battling with recent tribulations, IIM Lucknow went into final placements with an air of uncertainty. However, at the end of just one and a half days, there was widespread jubilation on campus with the hallowed mark of hundred percent placements being reached rather effortlessly.

Between February 19 and 21, seventy leading companies from India and abroad recruited the cream of managerial talent from IIM Lucknow. The major highlight, however, was not only that the entire batch was placed within a day and a half, but that most students were recruited in companies and fields of their choice.

In terms of sectors, the major change in trend compared to last year was in the field of IT consulting. With 24 percent of the jobs bagged in this sector, the students with systems specialization were once again in great demand. The major recruiters in this sector included Infosys, CTS, Wipro, TCS, HCL Tech and PCS. These companies also offered several jobs in the areas of Business Development and Customer Relationship Management.

As usual, placements in the field of sales and marketing led in terms of numbers, with 37 percent students recruited for this sector. Leading corporates such as HLL, Tata Group, ITC, Asian Paints, GE, Pepsi and Coke recruited students in large numbers to spearhead their marketing initiatives. 20 percent students secured jobs in the much sought-after area of finance with major recruiters being HSBC, ICICI, Citibank, Standard Chartered, SBI Caps and UTI Bank. The number of consulting jobs was marginally greater than last year, with McKinsey, TSMG, PwC and Triniti Corporation recruiting students.

With several lateral and Pre-placement offers being made, many students had the luxury of choosing between jobs. Ten international offers were also made, with the highest international salary of USD 60,000 being offered by Olam International. The average salary was Rs. 6.18 lacs, not including the international offers.

Some of the new companies that recruited from IIM Lucknow included the likes of SAP, ICICI Prulife and Triniti Corporation. Triniti Corporation and McKinsey offered the highest domestic salary of Rs. 14 lacs.

The overall feedback from recruiters reinforced the reputation of IIM Lucknow's postgraduate programme of being rigorous and extremely practical. The students surpassed the expectations of companies and were chiefly responsible for the spectacular hundred percent placements being achieved within a day and half of the commencement of the final process. The world-class facilities at the institute only helped facilitate the process, and make it memorable for the recruiters.
