Placements 2007: Code of Silence, Statistics and Much Ado About Everything

Previous

Most of corporate CoolAvenues spoke to about salary data declined to make a comment or to come on record as nobody wants to be seen as a company, which is not the part of those magic salary figures, but fortunately, salary figures of lateral recruits are available for some institutes, which give us a glimpse of overall remuneration data.

So, did Placements 2007 turn out to be a disappointment??? Not really, as overall placements were fabulous with a good number of companies visiting IIMs, and it was in continuation with the trends witnessed in previous years, but again nothing extraordinary. Rather a mixed year with a good number of companies coming in, while at the same time, the tail-end of placements getting quite long, probably the negative impact of salary data has started to trickle in.

It is high time that IIMs need to look at its placement process very closely and bring the much-needed reforms and transparency for the sake of corporate as well as MBA aspirants. What is needed is probably release of more sensible data after completion of placements process, which will be helpful to corporate as well as MBA aspirants rather than breaking news scenarios. And hence, not these blanket-bans but a more sensible and logical approach to the placement issue is the answer, and for a change, probably these centers of management education need to apply what they preach to the whole world and learn to be more responsible to all stakeholders.

Amen!!!
