A student seminar on Logistics and Supply Chain Management titled 'Chaining the Buck' was held on October 27, 2001 (Continuum 2001) and was well attended by the industry and the academia. To focus on the latest issues in the field of Logistics management, a day long seminar on 'Logistics Management - Emerging Trends in India' is being organized, in association with AFL Limited, India's premier Integrated Logistics provider.
Logistics Management - Emerging Trends in India With the advent of Supply Chain Management, Logistics is fast becoming a competitive tool in the hands of the industry. Customer delight being the driving force in today's industry, getting the right product to reach the customer at the right time, at the right place and at the lowest cost is very essential. This necessitates a well designed and efficiently managed Logistic network. Such a network, in turn, demands extensive use of technology, state of the art infrastructure, industry supportive government policies and world class business practices. In India too, as SCM is gaining momentum, Logistics is increasingly coming under focus. Most of the best practices from all over the world are just emerging in the Indian industry. The industry spends about US$ 50 Billion annually on logistics management. Significant cost advantage can be obtained through well managed logistic systems. At Continuum 2003, we would like to highlight the current challenges facing the logistics managers and the trends that are emerging in India to address these challenges. We have invited experts from various sectors of the industry to share their valuable experience.
