Kiran Karnik delivers Convocation Address
at IIM Kozhikode Convocation


Kozhikode, March 19, 2005: Shri. Kiran Karnik, President, National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), Chief guest, delivered the convocation address for the batch of 2005 at IIM Kozhikode and gave rich insights on the future management issues to be faced by the eager batch in the corporate world.

The seventh batch of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode graduated on Saturday, March 19, 2005 amid a grand convocation ceremony conducted in the sprawling IIM-K campus at Kerala. 116 students of the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management received their diplomas at the ceremony.

In his convocation address, Mr. Kiran Karnik stressed on the rapidly changing business environment and changing business paradigms wherein decoupling of ownership and control is the norm. He emphasized on the need for future managers to be willing learners and team players. Innovation, Change management and Ethics were some other topics, which he asked the graduating students to ponder about and to apply in their professional life. The importance of retaining and harnessing intellectual capital and the need for industry-academia partnership to drive growth were some other ideas he talked about.

Mr. Kiran Karnik also congratulated the IIM K batch of 2005 on their excellent placements this year. IIM Kozhikode had enjoyed a stellar placement season with a significant rise in international, consulting and finance offers over previous years. With an increased batch strength of 120 (60 in previous years), the Class of 2005 had the cream of the corporate world participating in Placements 2005, including first-time recruiters like Capital One (recruiting for positions in the USA) who offered the highest salary, Deloitte Consulting, JP Morgan Chase, Cap Gemini, SBI Caps and ITC. The highest Indian salary came from the consulting sector - from Deloitte Consulting. Other regular recruiters including the likes of Citigroup, Accenture, GE, IBM, Asian Paints, HP, Kotak, Godrej and the Aditya Birla Group also returned to campus to draw from the IIM-K talent pool.

Dr. Krishna Kumar, Director, IIM Kozhikode delivered his keynote address and spoke about his vision of making IIM-K a globally renowned and socially relevant institute of higher learning. He spoke about the initiatives taken up by the institute in the fields of faculty research and foreign exchange programme, working papers and post doctoral research work to achieve the vision. He also lauded the students on their excellent placements.
