CoolAvenue's Interview with:
Varun S. Pilla
PGDM, Batch 2008-10,
International Management Institute (IMI), New Delhi.

  1. General Questions
  2. Questions related to Pre-MBA Preparation
  3. Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise
  4. Interview-related Questions
  5. After Joining MBA

3. Questions related to Group Discussion / Group Exercise

Q. Was Group Discussion or Group Exercise part of selection process?
A. There was only a Group Discussion in the IMI selection process.

Q. What was the topic of your Group Discussion?
A. "Organ Trafficking is an Example of How Rich Exploit Poor."

Q. The duration of Group Discussion, Size of the Group, Number of Panelists, etc.
A. The group was of 8 students, and 10 minutes were allotted. There were two panelists (the same ones who took our interviews) overlooking the discussion.

Q. Were there any set norms for Group Discussion?
A. It was just a normal group discussion. And each of us had to give a one minute summary in the end.

Q. Do write a brief about your Group Discussion experience.
A. Thankfully, my IMI Group Discussion Group was a bunch of level-headed people. There was no shouting or screaming. Everyone gave each other a chance to speak, various issues were discussed. And the only point where the group lost track was when the recent kidney scam was put to fore. We spent time unnecessarily discussing that current issue, when our topic actually was organ trafficking in general. Anyway, on the whole, it was a pleasant experience, one of those GDs where you feel you have done well.

Q. How was the environment during Group Discussion?
A. Peaceful. No individual flairs. A true group discussion.

Q. Describe your impression of your team members and overall Group Discussion Process?
A. My team members certainly knew what they were talking about. I guess General Kknowledge was a strong-hold for many. They threw in examples and figures which were impressive. Everyone was nice, and that benefited everyone.

Q. How would you rate your performance in Group Discussion?
A. 8 out of 10. And it was my best performance.

Q. Areas where you could have performed better in your Group Discussion?
A. I could have brought in a few more facts and figures like my team-mates did. I was playing a moderator role, giving the GD a direction. I don't think I made a lot of individual points, maybe only a few.

Contd.   4. Interview-related Questions
