"The Bombay School has created a unique management, giving to both the Indian and Global environments." Asia Inc. (1997) About the Institute & its Infrastructure Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies is the prestigious University of Mumbai's premier management institute. From being set up as an experiment to impart management skills through a department of the University, to being rated amongst the top 25 B-schools in the Asia-Pacific region, JBIMS has continued its tradition of excellence. The mission of the institute, however, has unwaveringly stood the test of time to help develop the country's finest corporate managers. A Series of Firsts The Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, fondly referred to as JBIMS by Alumni and Industry, started India's first full-time Masters degree in Management Studies in 1965, and has never looked back since. It is also the first amongst its kind to christen its MBA programme as a Masters in Management Studies (MMS). JBIMS engineered another first by creating a teaching paradigm, which catered to the increasing need of the students. It pioneered the concept of a full-time visiting faculty, and today has about 175 faculty, developed over a period of three decades, consisting of professionals widely acclaimed in their area of expertise, leading to a unique learning paradigm embracing the best of theory and practice. Apart from the full-time Masters in Management Studies, the Institute also offers various other Executive MBA and Doctoral programmes.
Today's Scenario All of the Institute's endeavours for almost thirty-five years have revolved around the industry. This is also due to the unique location of the Institute - in the commercial hub of the city: Nariman Point. The location helps it to attract some of the corporate world's finest talent to be part of its faculty. Industry Interaction The Industry-JBIMS links are not merely for the placements at the end of the year, JBIMS also enjoys a very active and mutually beneficial relationship with the Industry that manifests itself throughout the year. This is primarily in two forms. * Industry giving to JBIMS: A coveted visiting faculty, guest lectures, workshops/ training series conducted by the likes of HLL, ICICI, Citibank, HSBC, Standard Chartered, Andersen Consulting, PWC, P&G, etc. * JBIMS giving to the Industry: Involvement of students/ faculty in live projects, research, training and consulting assignments undertaken by the Institute, and organising the annual business convention - Strategym
