  • Two letters of recommendation preferably from academics who have taught you or with whom you have worked closely on scholarly work. However, your supervisor at work could write a reference if you have been away from University for long

  • Official/Certified Standard Test Scores

Candidates must submit official/Certified copies of the test scores on one of the various tests depending on the area to which the candidate is applying. The Standard Test Score requirement for various areas of specialization are:

  • Agriculture, Business Policy, Finance and Accounting, Information Systems, Marketing, Public Systems: Common Admission Test (CAT) of the Indian Institutes of Management

  • Production and Quantitative Methods Area GATE/GRE score (GATE/GRE taken only in 2003-04) or CAT

  • Economics: CAT or the UGC's JRF (Research) in Economics, Business Economics and Development Economics

  • Organizational Behaviour: CAT; applicants residing abroad can apply with scores of GMAT or GRE (General) & GRE (Advanced) scores in any of the Social Science streams (95 percentile)

  • Personnel & Industrial Relations: CAT or UGC's JRF (Research) in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Public Administration, Management, Law, Labour Welfare/Personnel Management/Industrial Relations/Labour and Social Welfare/Human Resource Management, Women's Studies, and Human Rights and Duties

  • PGP alumni of IIMs can apply directly

Candidates residing outside India could choose to take any of the above tests (depending on the area to which they are applying) or write GMAT. CAT is administered only in India. The doctoral programme accepts test scores that have been taken in the last two years.

CAT is the common admission test required for admission to the Post Graduate Programmes of the Indian Institutes of Management. CAT will be administered next on November 21, 2004 at various centres in India. Please follow instructions in the advertisement for applying for CAT that appeared in all major Indian newspapers on July 18, 2004. PLEASE NOTE THAT APPLYING FOR CAT IS NOT THE SAME AS APPLYING FOR THE FPM. Application for admission to FPM must be made on the prescribed admission form.
