Fellow Management Programme (FPM)

The Programme

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) is equivalent to a Ph.D programme. The objective of the programme is to promote deeper understanding of research in the science of management, particularly in the Indian context. The FPM is a full-time doctoral-leveI programme primarily designed to develop academically qualified professionals for careers in management education, training, research and consultancy.

Course Structure

The FPM would ordinarily demand four years of residential requirements in two stages. In the first stage, the selected candidate needs to meet the course requirements over two years. During this stage, the student is given appropriate exposure to the basic discipline of management, thus preparing him/her for the thesis work in the next stage. The course work that will be undertaken by the student will be from among those courses that are offered to the PGP students, especially in the first year, and specially designed courses in the second year. Each student is placed under the guidance of a Faculty Advisory Committee after considering his or her field of interest. The FPM student who has done his/her PGP from XLRI with the CQPI of 6.00 or higher may be exempted from the first year course work.

On successful completion of the course requirement, the student has to qualify in two comprehensive examinations (one in the area of specialization and the other in the interrelated areas) before taking up the thesis work.

The thesis stage is of at least two years. The student may decide to select a thesis topic from among areas like Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Marketing, Operations Management, Organizational Behaviour, Personnel Management & Industrial Relations and Strategic Management. The student is expected to identify a thesis problem in consultation with the thesis guide, and work under the supervision of the Thesis Advisory Committee. On successful completion of all the requirements of the FPM programme a student will be awarded the title 'Fellow in Management'. The student is encouraged to assist faculty members in their research and teaching especially from the third year onwards.

Fellowship

Fellow students are awarded with a fellowship of Rs.7,000/-per month during the first two years of their course work. The fellowship shall be Rs.10,000/- per month during the third and fourth years. Fellowship shall be paid only to the full-time residential candidates for a maximum period of four years.

A fellow student is entitled for a contingency grant of Rs.10,000/- per annum during the first two years and a grant of Rs. 20,000/- per annum during the third and fourth years.

To attract meritorious students XLRI charges a nominal amount of fees to the Fellow students.

Conferences and International Exposure

The Institute provides opportunities to attend National and International conferences. A fellow student can participate in two domestic conferences and the Institute shall support in terms of II A.C. travel and registration fees. Besides these, the student can participate in one international conference and a support up to 60,000/- shall be provided during the period of FPM.
