GIM's 'Ribandar Talks' Feature Shravan Shroff, MD - Shringar Films
Theme: "Corporatisation of the Indian Entertainment Industry"

His exposure to the film distribution made him realize that it was a tough job on hand. He then decided to go ahead for further education (MBA from Melbourne Business School).

During his MBA programme, he came across the case study of "Balton and United Breweries" in his strategic management course. For this case study, he had applied the concepts of "Porter Five Forces", "Backward & Forward Integration", etc. On completion of the case, it struck him that he could apply the same concepts for Shringar Films.

He was so impressed with the outcome that he decided to get back to India and implement them, for which he even gave up Boston Consulting Group (BCG) interview during placements (which was a dream company for many others in the institute).

After joining his dad, he concentrated on the exhibition part (Mumbai) as he saw lot of scope of improvement in this field, as the state of theaters in Mumbai was very bad.

His first step was to convince builders to lease out theatres to him and the tougher part was to convince his dad for capital.

Being one of the very few educated persons in the industry, he was the target of some snide remarks for his revolutionary approach. He learnt the gaps in the retail film industry by getting his hands dirty, he learnt how to make popcorn, how coke distribution works, etc.
