Day 2

It started with IT session that was chaired by Mr. Ashok Wahi, Director (IT Operations), Convergys who highlighted the need of doing things in a different innovative manner.
Mr. Rajeev Arora, Sr. Manager, BU Head, e-Busines Applications, IBM set the ball rolling with IBM success story and stressed on the immediate need of close ties between industry and academia. Mr. J. Kalyan Raman, Sr-VicePresident, HCL described Sustainable Development as an " Oxymoron". He gave a 3-point strategy related to IT services

  • Quality

  • Mr. Sunil Mehra, Director Sales, Oracle explored the previously untouched aspect of information that encompassed Information Security. Utilization, Availability and misuse.

    The session ended with a rater intriguing question answer session where the theme ranged from the digital economies to Asimov’s 3rd law.

    Prof. Ravi Shanker flagged off telecom session. Mr. Rajinder Singh detailed about the need to anticipate future technologies and subsequent regulatory hurdles. Mr. Abhay Vaish, Country Head, Ericcson presented the equipment manufacturer’s view. He briefed about 4 aspects related to development i.e. Infrastructure, Environment, Education and health.

    Mr. Rajat Mukarji, Director-Country Affairs, Idea Cellular started with a rhetorical question: Is technology bringing us together or dividing us apart? Scale of telecom business is colossal and the growth is sustainable, he said. Mr. Pradeep Rao focused on Value Added Services and provided a fresh perspective to the session.

    Operation Session was chaired by Prof. Benwat who started the things in his trademark lighter vain. This set in motion the more serious discussion that was taken up by Mr. K.J. Gupta, Head- Projects, Dabur India who talked about global competitiveness and the sectors such as BPO, Pharma, IT and medical tourism that will evolve to be models of Sustainable Development.

    Mr. Shiva Gulvady , Ex-Vice President, Pepsi Foods presented an informative case study on water conservation at Panipat that shook the misconceptions haunting the soft drinks industry. Mr. Arjun Lahiri furthur talked about the importance of Sustainable development and marked off 2 day of intense intellectual discussion.

    The event served as a platform to bring together the government, the corporate, the media and the academia to deliberate on issues and challenges facing the nation and share their experiences and views with the larger audience.
