Ms. Padmaja Krishnan, Director-Marketing, Planning and Research, CSC, was the next to address the audience and she gave the topic an It perspective while talking about Services marketing.
She stressed upon the need for premarket activities such as identifying the stakeholders, geographies, competition, and the importance of people centric strategies. The next speaker to enlighten the floor was Mr. Colin J.Warren, Portfolio Manager, South Asia, Global Manufacturing & Services Department, International Finance Corporation who drew references from his experience while working with The World Bank. The session was then enriched by the inputs of Mr. Gullu Sen, Vice President, Dentsu, who added a fresh perspective by highlighting an increasing tendency to ignore values and ethics in the hurry to grow. The last speaker in this session was Mr. Arun Shanker, Ex-Director, Eicher Consultancy Services, who had a rather interactive presentation prescribing the need to align needs of consumers with the requirements of sustainable development.

The second session was flagged off by Prof. K.C Iyer, of DMS, IIT Delhi, who then invited Mr. Colin J.Warren, Portfolio Manager, South Asia, Global Manufacturing & Services Department, International Finance Corporation. Mr. Warren emphasized on the need for projects to be financially, environmentally, economically and socially sustainable to be financed by IFC. He also drew references from the various projects financed in India, to highlight the principles of financial sustainability.

The next speaker in this session was Ms. Gerlinde Sturm, Director (Finance), Siemens who narrated some of her experiences in the Czech Republic, and then spoke about the roles of CFOs in the scenario of wafer thin margins. She said that sustainable development although tough, is possible.

The third and final session for the day focused on Human resources. Prof Kanika T. Bhal, DMS, IIT Delhi chaired this session. The first speaker was Mr. Vineet Kapila, Vice President, Coca Cola. He spoke about the various initiatives taken by Coca Cola, such as water preservation, HIV/AIDS programmes. He spoke about managing sustainable development through HR. he also spoke about the paradigm shift from-

The next to provide some meaningful insights was Mr. Ashok Kumar, LG Electronics, who emphasized the importance of culture, values, learning, innovation and fun. He also spoke on weekly appraisal as a method for employee improvement. The next speaker was N.S Rajan, Partner, Ernst & Young whose perspective was to look at Sustainable Development at different levels, national to the individual, starting from the individual or self.

Finally , summed up the enlightening session by highlighting the seemingly negative correlation between social and economic development, and the industry demonstrating the reverse, and also proving its benefits in the long run.

Thus ended a rather absorbing and enlightening first day, leaving the audience impatient for the next day’s activities.
