Annual International Business Fest 'Intaglio' Concludes With a Fitting Finale at IIM Calcutta
Highlights of Intaglio Day 3

On the concept of Socialism, the CM said that capitalism cannot be the last chapter in human history and ultimately socialism will be required. An IIMC student asked the CM about the prospect of a political career for MBA graduates, to which the CM replied, "I think businessmen should focus on business, while politicians should focus on politics. Businessmen should not get involved in politics while inversely politicians should not get involved in business." He probably meant that a political career must be a full-time pursuit and should be taken up only if one is particularly motivated to enter politics.

The CM was very enthusiastic and optimistic about the prospects of the State of West Bengal and assured everyone that West Bengal is experiencing resurgence and is on its way to become a hub of activity.

Mega-Investor and Markets Guru Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala's Session

IIMC is renowned for its prowess in finance and Mr. Jhunjhunwala's talk provided great market insights to the finance-focused group of students. Comparing markets to women, Mr. Rakesh Jhunjhunwala said markets were mysterious and uncertain. One a more serious note, he said markets were temples of capital allocation and they channelized capital to the most productive assets. In fact, he contradicted the Chief Minister in saying that socialism will not work since the government and not the markets are channelizing capital. But that's what Intaglio is all about - assimilating contradictory views and gaining a better understanding of society and economy.

Mr. Jhunjhunwala shared many of his experiences with the stock market and explained the gist of his strategies. The key learning of the talk for the audience was that one must be an optimist but at the same time have realistic expectation of returns. One must not be afraid to make mistakes since good judgement comes from experience. The talk provided great motivation and inspiration for the many finance-oriented students, who will be having their placements in just another 3 months.
