Manthan 2008 at TISS-Mumbai Attracts Best Talent from B-schools

Previous

Cultural Events (Abeer) at Manthan 2008 (Sponsored by Coke India)

TISS is known to be a colourful campus which celebrates life and culture. Through its cultural events, Manthan '08 again sought to weave into our corporate focus, this essential
characteristic celebration. All was not hunky-dory though for the participants of Kalrav (Singing Competition), Abhivyakti (Choreography Competition), Dhrishti (Ad-Mad Show), Claim to Fame (Talent Hunt Show) and Star Nite.

Kalrav had 49 entries out of which 9 were called for the Campus Round. The event was adjudicated by Shibani Kashyap and Sapna Awasthi (Chaiyyan-Chaiyyan fame).

Claim to Fame had participants from premier B-schools - IIM-Ahmedabad, MDI-Gurgaon, SIBM-Pune, SCMHRD-Pune, Goa Institute of Management, IIT-Bombay (SJMSOM), IIT-Kharagpur (VGSoM) - with some famous Bombay colleges like St. Xaviers, Rajhans College joining the fray. It then boiled down to 6 finalists and 2 winners. The event comprised a general quiz round, India quiz, 4 minutes to fame and personal questions. The event was adjudicated by Mr. Muzzambil Ibrahim, Gladrags Mr. India, winner of President's Award for Bravery AND Dr. Tushar Shah, winner of the TV show, Laughter Challenge.

Dhrishti, the ad-mad show, sponsored by Radio Mirchi, had entries from 40 colleges. However, the teams that finally made it to the Campus Round included undergraduate colleges. They were IIT-Delhi, SCMHRD-Pune, PUMBA-Pune, and LIBA-Chennai.

The feature of Abeer though was unarguably Kaifiyat, the Talat Aziz Nite. The ghazal maestro sang to a young and solicitous crowd at TISS Convention Center on the second evening of Manthan. It also set a mood of separation of participant teams. The final adieu was painful yet gloriously optimistic of another encounter in some unanticipated moments and places, bringing back cheerful memories of Manthan '08.
