  • % of people living in rural areas: 80.13%

  • Rural is not necessarily agricultural, the main source of livelihood of over 33% of rural households is not from agriculture

  • Significant increase in the real per capita expenditure on education

  • By 2001-02, it was Rs. 245 or 2.5% of total spending, measured in constant prices

  • In 2001, over 30% of rural households had at least one bank account, and were used banking services

    But

  • only 31% of rural households can claim to have drinking water facilities within their homesteads

  • Less than 44% have an electricity connection
