Placements 2002 @ IIM K

On February 1' 2002, all eyes were glued on IIM K, the first of the IIMs to begin the Placement season. Notwithstanding the economic slowdown, the Day 1 of placements season reflected the growing faith of the corporate world in the ability of the IIMK students and fraternity. Day 1 saw 58 students of the class of 2002 bag 61 offers in less than 8 hours.

The consolidated INR Average Salary stood at Rs. 5.97 Lakhs p.a. with the highest offer made on campus being Rs. 12 Lakhs p.a. The average salary was marginally lower than the average INR of last year which stood at Rs. 6.14 Lakhs p.a. but if the range and quality of offers are anything to go by, Placements 2002 took off from where Placements 2001 had left.

The participating companies on Day 1 represented the entire cross section of the industry including the likes of consultancies, like TCS, Kale Consultants; Banks/Financial services companies such as, GE Caps, Citibank, HSBC, HDFC Bank, UTI, UTI Bank, IDEK (IDFC), STCI, ICICI Prulife; FMCG majors such as, Godrej Industries, Pidilite, Perfetti; firms such as Ramco, PCS, Nexgenix, Polaris & SAP Labs from the Information Technology sector; Pharmaceutical players like Torrent and Alembic Pharmaceuticals. The list goes on and on with manufacturing firms like Larsen and Toubro Limited, Anand Corporate Limited, SRF and others being left with one or even no candidates available. The Placement office still has a job on its hands dealing with the companies scheduled beyond Day One.

The confidence of the industry in the IIM K student was amply reflected in the number of Pre-Placements Offers and Higher than entry offers received this year. 7 students bagging Pre Placement Offers and 18 students bagging Lateral Offers out of 58 left the corporates wishing that the batch size of IIM K had been larger. Companies like RPG and Wockhardt have awarded the best summer intern awards to students of the Class of 2002 at IIM K. GE Capital awarded excellence awards to 2 other students of the batch of 2002. IIM K has indeed come of age and the institute has plans to expand the batch size soon.

Within five years of its inception, IIMK has been able to initiate research, training and consultancy programs in areas like tourism management, health care, advanced education and IT. These programs are aimed at the overall development and advancement of the region at large. IIMK is actively involved in Social Development Projects, which are initiatives undertaken to develop future managers with an attitude towards an equitable society and a global perspective.

Having attained stability in its academic activities, IIMK looks to the future with a sense of pride and expectation. IIM K's new 96-acre campus is coming up at a very fast pace on the outskirts of Calicut. The next academic session will see the new batch landing up on IIM K's own campus, arguably one of the most beautifully designed in the country. The new campus supports the latest IT infrastructure along with a digital studio for the institute's Interactive Distance Learning program. This campus is a visual treat and equipped with the state of the art allied support systems required to achieve IIM K's vision of being a premier management institute and a major learning resource center in the Asia Pacific region.

The summer recruitment program of the institute has also been a tremendous success with students receiving assignments from selected corporate in the country as well as abroad. Placements 2002 was the last placement season in IIM K's present operating campus. The institute will have the honour of hosting Placements 2003 in its own campus. The move to the new campus is scheduled during April 2002.
