DoMS, IIT Madras Initiates "Placement Week" & Concludes Placements with Resounding Success

The 41 graduates of the Class of 2006 of DoMS, IIT Madras, could not have asked for a better campus placement season than December 2005. The Placement Committee of DoMS IIT Madras conceptualized and initialized the "Placement Week" for the first time at DoMS within four years of establishment of the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) programme. The Placement Week turned out to be a resounding success with participation from top-notch companies from various sectors.

Within no time the final year MBA grads were picked by high-end companies. Students received multiple offers with the option of choosing a "dream job". The companies had a good mix of all specializations to choose with an increased trend in students majoring in marketing, which was supported by placements in the FMCG sector. Within just four years of its existence DoMS, IIT Madras has been able to make a mark by attracting the corporate world to hunt students from its campus. There has been a clear increase in all the parameters, which can measure the success of career placements over the past four years.

Recruiters were extremely satisfied and happy with the quality of students that were on offer for the placements and the way the placement process was conducted. The Placements 2006 were hosted at the brand new building of DoMS with a complete re-engineered placement process as compared to 2005.

"We had scheduled six companies to conduct interviews daily and gave the students a choice of three job offers. That is, a candidate could accept up to three offer letters and give us the order of preference of companies one wishes to work for." Saying this Dr. T. T. Narendran, Professor & Advisor (Training & Placement), IIT Madras described Placements 2006 as the beginning of the era of "Dream Job" concept at DoMS, IIT Madras.

"Our past management students who were placed in leading companies have served as our brand ambassadors. Their performance has certainly increased our visibility and reputation." said Dr. Sanghamitra Bhattacharyya, Assistant Professor & Faculty Co-ordinator - Placements. Adding to that, she also said, "Besides, DoMS, IIT Madras has maintained a sound industry-institute interface which convinced corporate to look to our campus for recruitment."
