Increased Lateral Offers - The students with previous experience were in great demand with 5 out of the 6 receiving multiple offers. The highest offer for laterals was INR 7.5 lacs p.a. and the average was INR 6.5 lacs p.a.

Increased demand from Banking & IT Services sectors - The IT services and banking sectors were bullish on recruitment of MBAs from IIT Madras. The high growth prospects in these sectors synergized with the recruiters' belief in the capabilities of the students to lead organizations in these sectors.

Wider Diversity in Sectoral representation and Functional Area requirements - There is a wider diversity in sectoral representation as well as in the functional area requirements of the companies that participated in Placements 2006 compared to the previous years. Students were chosen in verticals such as Retail, Manufacturing and BFSI. And there was an increase in students opting for marketing as their functional area.
