Ms. Laura Parkin, Executive Director, NEN, says, "We are very excited to be launching the TATA-NEN Hottest Start-up Awards. We are honoured and delighted to be working with TATA on this highly innovative program to support young entrepreneurs in
India. The time is right for these Awards: in the past three years, we have experienced a large increase in the number of high-potential companies being founded. These companies need visibility and support to succeed. And the best way to provide the support is to engage as many people as possible in recognizing the value of these start-ups. TATA-NEN Hottest Start-ups is designed to engage: people nominate companies they know, learn about all the interesting startups in India today, and then help decide which companies are the TATA-NEN Hottest Start-ups in India. TATA NEN Hottest Start-ups are the Awards designed for today’s empowered public."

Lending support in the cause are Helion Ventures, Seedfund and Wadhwani Foundation. In addition, all the established entrepreneurial, academic and corporate communities including, Microsoft, IIM-Bangalore, IIM-Ahmedabad, Open Coffee Club Chapters, Mumbai Angels, Indian Angel Network, Venture Woods, Proto.in, Kickstart and TiE are partnering in the initiative. There are three requirements for participating start-ups. The company must be: -
a) 5 or fewer years old;
b) Headquartered in India; and
C) A stand-alone - not a subsidiary or division of a larger company.
