Previous

Ms. Punita Lal, Executive Director - Marketing, PepsiCo India, stated that Indian leaders were intense sloggers vying for a small chunk of the pie. She also mentioned that there was a lot of complexity in India which led to lower productivity. However, she was of the opinion that Indians are not the best of team players and tend to become comfortable with boundaries not lucidly delineated. The future, according to Ms. Punita, belongs to the Millennials who need to change from a 'College of leadership to a Country of leadership'. She also pointed out that Indians were leaders in functional positions rather than general managerial positions.

Mr. Sandeep Dhupia, Partner at KPMG India, started by posing a question to the audience as to whether India had taken on the world. He spoke about the emergence of India Inc as a serious player in the global arena. He mentioned that companies like Bharat Forge and Ranbaxy are true Indian MNCs. The invigorating discussing was followed by a round of several interesting questions from the students of the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi.

The post lunch session on 'Leadership through Thick & Thin' commenced with Lt. General (Retd.) Rajender Singh, former Director General of Infantry in the Indian Army, sharing his leadership experiences in the army with the gathering. Lt. General Singh equated leadership in the army in a crisis situation to leadership required in the economic crisis faced by the corporate world. He spoke of his experiences in Sri Lanka where his unit battled the LTTE and won a unit citation. In his address to the gathering, Lt. General Singh made a memorable remark, "As a leader in the army, if you cannot make the hair on your soldiers' arms stand with your words and inspire them for battle within 5 minutes, you are no good."
