Dotcom
Highlights
Overview Contrary to popular perception and media hype, Dotcoms by themselves did not set campuses on fire exactly, but they had an indirect "domino" effect in boosting the campus salaries, as most of the talent at middle and junior level personnel in companies left for dotcoms and created a great vacuum in the corporate talent market. Major backend players were Mphasis, Planetasia, Mindtree. But unlike at Ivy League B-schools in US, where dotcom majors like Yahoo!, eBay, Amazon.com, AllAdvantage.com recruit heavily and are among "Star" recruiters, here dotcoms did not recruit. Big names like Rediff.com, Indiatimes.com, Indiainfo.com were absent at B-schools. Maybe entry of Yahoo!, Zdnet in India will herald the entry of dotcoms at B-schools. Moreover, the students were also not very keen to join dotcoms, the favorites were as usual conventional recruiters, i.e. investment banking, consulting etc. Probably the students were more keen to start their own venture rather than join some dotcom, as some students at IIMB and IIMA opted for starting their own dotcoms instead of taking offers from some of the best names in IB. Bounty Hunters At SP Jain, Planetasia (10 offers) led Dotcom bandwagon. At IMT, the dotcom majors like Planetasia.com, IRIS.com were there. At IIML, Mindtree made 6 offers which were accepted along with Planetasia (4 accepted offers). IIMC saw Planetasia and Mindtree in action. At IIMB, Planetasia and Mindtree made 2 offers each. At IIMA, none of Indian dotcoms got a chance to recruit. Planetasia made two offers at FMS, Delhi. Planetasia led the dotcom brigade at Bajaj.
