Highlights
Overview ESOPs was the order of the day. Students were preferring software companies over the marketing companies. Obvious reason was ESOPs, besides getting a chance to work in IT field and travelling abroad on company assignments. Feedback from Alumni, who joined these companies a couple of years back, and the value of their Stock Options, which was over Rs 1 crore at time of stock market High in February end, also influenced many career decisions. Students cited excellent working conditions and good perks as the main reasons for choosing IT companies. Healthy growth, robust assignments with overseas clients and blooming market capitalisations post Y2K bug led these IT companies to go on hiring spree for the MBA graduates so much required in these IT giants. Computer hardware/software was dominated by Indian companies, like Infosys, Wipro, HCL Technologies. Around 30% of the class was placed with software industry at IIMA, IIMB and IIMC, whereas it was mindboggling 45% at IIML. Overall, software industry performed well, as expected, mainly due to healthy bottomline post Y2K assignments and a booming BSE. Other stars were CITIL, Mphasis, Wipro and TCIL. At MDI, Satyam Comp and Satyam Infoway (4 offers each accepted by students) and Blueshift Technologies (3 offers accepted) were stars.
