IIM Indore
IIM Indore, the latest member of the IIM family, saw its first batch of participants placed in a mere 36 hours - bearing evidence to the fact that IIMI has made its mark on Industry, in its very first year. Day 0 saw whopping 53 offers being made of which 23 were accepted. Thus, nearly 70% of the batch was placed on the first day itself.
Placements, which started on 17/02/00, and were scheduled to run over three days, ended early the next day. Thus, of the 32 companies slated to participate in the placement process, 5 could not be accomodated. In all, 64 offers (excluding waiting list) were made at an average of 1.94 offers per candidate.
Top Offers:
Blueshift led the fray with as many as 5 overseas placement offers, with corresponding dollar salaries. At $ 60,000, their offer topped those made on campus. Trans Indus also offered a London posting and Pound Sterling salary. Asian Paints was the frontrunner amongst companies offering rupee salaries. At Rs. 4.15 lakhs, they offered the highest paycheck (excluding incentives and bonus) for an Indian posting.
The jobs offered covered a wide gamut of functional areas:
Systems:
Blueshift & Mphasis were amongst the IT majors to visit the campus. Given that the institute has a strong focus on Information Technology and Systems, IT accounted for 15% of all final offers accepted.
Marketing:
Traditional favorites Asian Paints and Godrej Soaps were amongst the top marketing companies that vied for Marketing talent. 28% of the participants were absorbed into this functional area, making marketing the dominant functional area in recruitment.
Consulting:
Consultancy firms recruited 15% of the batch - a real feather in cap, considering this was the first year of placements. A.F. Ferguson alone picked up 5 participants.
Finance:
The financial wizkids were snapped up by the likes of HDFC and Global Trust Bank. 24% of offers accepted were in the Finance function.
