IMT Ghaziabad is one of the top 10 B-schools in India. Ever since its inceptions it has established itself as one of the most favored hunting grounds of MNCs & Indian Corporate for the brightest & the best. And Placement 2000 extended this trend in a grand manner.

The highest salary offered for overseas posting was US $ 50,000 p.a., while Indian salary was Rs. 4.3 Lakhs p.a.. The average compensation was Rs. 3.83 Lakhs. In all, 81 companies came to campus with 35 new companies interested in recruiting from IMT. This is testimony to the quality of students, performance of alumni of IMT and the hard work of faculty at the Institute.

The new companies that came to the campus included MphasiS, Planetasia.com, IRIS.com, GE India, Cisco, Kurt Salmon Associates, Jones lang la salle, HDFC, McKinsey KC, CRISIL, Polaris, UB Group among others.

Day 1: Day 1 at IMT was a hectic day and there were companies from all the areas. There were in all 26 companies slotted on Day 1. And the day got an early start. Companies function-wise were:

Day 2: The trend continued over on Day 2 at the IMT campus with more companies from these functions making a beeline for the students.

Day 3: And by Day 3, only a few students are left who gets placed by afternoon.

The corporate were too eager to sign up the IMT graduate MBAs, The fact that the placements got over in just three days instead of the planned five days. The average salary has taken a quantum leap from the 2.66 Lakhs p.a. last year to 3.83 Lakhs this year. The highest salary jumped to $ 50,000. In all, over 80 companies ranked among the who's who of the Corporate world made 148 job offers to 104 students.

A visibly beaming Placement Chairman Prof. Pankaj Gupta remarked, "The kind of Placement we had this year has reaffirmed our belief that the managerial skills we impart to our student managers is in keeping with the requirements of the job market. The substantial jump in the no. of offers this year is ample endorsement of the quality & calibre of the managers we produce."

A major feature was the IT industry on IMT campus. The dot com majors like Planetasia.com, Mphasis Corp., IRIS.com, Satyam Infoway, etc., were there complimenting IT majors like Cisco, Compaq, Polaris, Oracle Consulting, Satyam Enterprises et al at the placements. ESOPs were offered by almost all dot coms & infotech majors as in other campuses. Significantly, the dot coms were not only looking for engineers or MBA (Systems), but were looking for people with domain knowledge in marketing, finance and operations who could create business models on the net.

The finance & financial service sector staged a major resurgence with heavyweights like CRISIL, ICICI, HDFC, IFCI, Power Finance Corporation, Citicorp Securities, First Global, GE-Countrywide, GE-SBI, The Associates, etc., making a beeline for the best slots.

Consultancy was still a favorite among students with Andersen Consulting, Kurt Salmon Associates, Mckinsey Knowledge Center, Eicher Consultancy Services, Business Consulting Group, CB Richard Ellis, Jones Lang La Salle, S.B.Billimoria commanding a premium.

IMT being traditionally a bastion for marketing, the marketing majors were in great demand with dot coms and service sector competing with the regular FMCGs, Durables and Ad agencies & Market research firms. Notable among them were Whirlpool, Dabur, UB group, Pidilite, Godrej & Boyce, Williamson Magor group, J.L Morrison, etc.

The galaxy of ad agencies headed by HTA, FCB-Ulka, Chaitra Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi alongwith ORG, MARG & IMRB , etc., vied for the best creative talent on the campus. The other big names, which participated, were Tata Administrative Services, Eli lily Ranbaxy, British Oxygen, GE, Torrent, Glaxo, Adani Wilmar Singapore, TELCO , etc.?

As Placement 2000 got over and the party began, a student summed it up as, "It is not a culmination of a dream, but the beginning of one."
