One of the students, who rejected the offer said," Maybe for a short period, the money was tempting, but I am looking at a Consultancy and I have the opportunity to choose". The Indian brigade was led by P&G and KPMG. P&G, a much-revered company at NITIE, was the highest domestic paymaster with an offer of Rs. 6.28 Lakhs per annum. They finally took 4 students. Those looking for consultancies were in for a big surprise. Midway through Day TWO the entire batch of 83 students had been placed. Apart from final placement, 9 PPOs (Pre placement offers) were made by companies. This Placement 2001 was an important milestone in NITIE's history. It was a reflection of the coming of age of an Institute that started only five years back. Starting with an average salary of Rs. 1.5 lakhs in 1996 (first batch of management students), salaries at NITIE have been growing at a compounded growth rate of 30%. Not only they have salaries improved (up by 31% over the last year), but also the job profiles on offer have undergone a sea of change. Originally perceived as an operations school, today it is being recognised as a complete B-school. Leo made one offer whereas Corporate giants like P&G, Compaq and many other companies like Marico took students for their Sales & Marketing divisions. This year 26% students were into consulting, 13% in marketing, 36% in Systems and IT, and majority of the remaining went into Supply Chain Management and Operations.
