About the Institute Established in 1973 by the Government of India, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) is a centre of Excellence in the field of management education. It is the third IIM to be established by the government after the IIMA and IIMC. The location of the Institute offers the advantage of ready access to some of the leading corporate houses in the country, which helps in integrating classroom knowledge with practical experience. IIMB's Organization Based Programmes (OBPs) and Management Programmes for Technologists (MPTs), apart from its several Executive Development Programmes (EDPs), offer both the faculty and students the opportunity to interact closely with the Indian industry.
Through active involvement of the student body, the institute has evolved a new model for upgrading and streamlining the existing course content. With a variety of subjects offered to students across a range of disciplines and functional areas, and through withdrawing the necessity to specialise in particular areas, IIMB is attempting to develop among its students a generalist approach and a breadth of perspective unmatched in business schools elsewhere. The model of 'Contemporary Concerns', involving research on an issue of strategic importance to the Indian corporate sector, under the guidance of a faculty member, furthers IIMB's objective of staying in tune with the rapidly changing complexion of Indian business and the challenges it faces today.
